Position: Network/ System Engineer

Duration: 3 Months Contract

Job Description:

My client is looking out for a Network/ System Engineer.

What will you be doing?

  • Monitoring, measuring and reporting on performance, capacity and quality of Production networks and converged Enterprise network
  • Provide up-to-date network documentation and inventories
  • Work closely with the rest of the team to ensure compliance to existing networking standards
  • Take ownership and responsibility for the design, deployment, including but not limited to maintenance and monitoring of networks
  • Deployment and maintenance of network infrastructure across multiple corporate sites
  • Architecting, designing, implementing changes via our change management process
  • Work with the Security team to implement best practices, new tools and technologies
  • Deployment and maintenance of IP Telephony
  • Identify areas of system improvement from an operations perspective
  • Provide support to operations and IT staff – investigate and troubleshoot system operations and performance issues
  • Respond to emergency issues, organize expert response, and coordinate final resolution.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Compliance for any security incident or breach containment, assessment, mitigation and reporting
  • Vendor management
  • Demonstrated experience with installing and maintaining servers and enterprise storage, including related software and hardware
  • Maintains security of servers and storage by implementing proper security software and settings, updates and other appropriate security measures
  • Performs systems administration functions such as managing user accounts and profiles, and maintaining hardware and software inventory and licenses
  • Identifies recurring hardware and software problems and recommends plans for prevention and resolution
  • Ensures data security and availability through proper backup and verification procedures
  • Supports user requests for administrative systems
  • Advocates information technology security “best practices”; ensure systems conform to company security standards and policies
  • Assists in IT hardware and software rollouts, including PCs, printers, phones, other IT resources
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call support rotation as required
  • Support and lead the operations of cloud and on-premises infrastructure and conduct periodic maintenance exercises, which may involve work outside normal business hours

We’re looking for candidates with experience with:

  • Various operating systems including Windows Server 2008, 2012 and 2016
  • Virtualized environments using Citrix XenServer or Hyper-V
  • Experienced in managing LAN, WAN, and virtualized network environments including routing, firewall rules, VPNs, etc.
  • Working knowledge, that you can speak to, of server hardware components and data center equipment such as UPS’s, PDU’s and be conceptuality aware of structured cabling standards and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of specialized applications services such as LDAP, SMTP, SFTP, SNMP, etc. would be an asset
  • Demonstrated experience on your resume supporting end-user IT hardware and software
  • Perform tasks in an efficient and effective manner
  • Ability to exhibit a positive attitude and to deal with coworkers and customers tactfully and courteously in order to maintain effective service-oriented relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrated experience with Cisco switches, Dell switches, PaloAlto and Meraki Firewall
  • Experience with Citrix XenApp, MS Office 365, MS Azure Active Directory and Trend Micro

Required qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of networking experience in a multi-vendor environment
  • Experience operating a 24x7 mission critical environment
  • Quick thinking and problem solving under pressure
  • Excellent written and oral communication

Nice to have:

  • Telephony experience for managing and troubleshooting third party systems
  • Knowledge of Voice Gateways, SIP trunks
